Diagnostic Case Planning - Smile Design

Proper case planning is essential for a predictable outcome. Pre-treatment planning provides a customized approach to your patient's needs and can assist you in proper material selection. Above all, it gives the patient a realistic idea of what to expect from the treatment so that surprises are minimized.

Diagnostic Wax-up

The wax-up is prepared on a stone model, detailing the design for proper function and desirable esthetics. From a diagnostic wax-up, a transparent plastic template can be fabricated for a dentist to use as a guide for teeth preparation. The wax-up also serves as a template for the temporary restoration which is fabricated from a mold of the wax-up.

Wax-ups are a valuable tool for any smile makeover because they give the patient an accurate preview of how his or her finished case will look. With this technique, the lab removes the desired amount of tooth structure from the preoperative model and the restoration is waxed onto the patient's actual prepped teeth and into missing spaces. This method accurately shows the patient, dentist and lab technician what is realistically attainable.

Diagnostic Wax-Up can be scanned and used for duplication in the production of a temporary or a final restoration.

To help you achieve desirable results we offer you a Smile Design package.

All our Smile Designs include:

  • A pre-op... where the patient is now

  • A diagnostic wax up... where the patient wants to be

  • Clear preparation  template... how to get there

  • Putty matrix…  for a fabrication of chairside temporaries

Virtual Diagnostic Imaging

All we need is a digital photo of the patient's smiling face and a diagnostic model or a scan. With help of 3Shape Scanner and the RealView Engine design software we can digitally design a new smile proposal and superimpose a face image over it.

Dentists can view and consult the design with the technician and also present the before-and-after 3D images to their patients using 3Shape Communicate. Once approved, the proposal is used for production of a temporary or a permanent restoration.

3Shape Communicate is a secure service accessible through a mobile app or a web browser, allowing for a real time review of 3D designs, exchange and discussion between the dentist and technician.  One does not need to own a TRIOS intraoral scanner in order to access and use this tool.

Temporary/ Provisional Restoration

A provisional crown or bridge is a restoration that protects the prepared tooth and prevents damage to the gums while the final restoration is made.

Provisional restorations can be invaluable for testing out esthetic and occlusal changes before they are duplicated into the definitive restoration.

Provisionals are based on diagnostic wax-up or digitally designed, milled in PMMA (Polymethyl-Methacrylate), finished and polished. They may be fabricated for a single tooth or multi-units, up to a full "roundhouse", but bridges are limited to one pontic span.

Available in 16 Vita shades and one bleach shade.

Depending on the esthetic expectations of the patient we offer two options:

  • Monochromatic- milled PMMA

  • Multilayered- milled PMMA, cut-back for enamel layering
